Annual Steam Hammer Rally and Picnic

Category: Show

The Annual Steam Hammer Rally and Picnic is an epic yearly Rally which sees the intrepid members of the thoroughly forward thinking Steam Hammer Racing Club put their foot to floor, with expedience and cunning, as they race against each other around a seemingly impossible circuit.

The Steam Hammer Racing Club hosts this annual event to commemorate the original ground breaking achievement of Sir Mimbus Stanley Steam-Hammer. This year members will once again be entering, and racing, the original pedal assisted vehicles which first made the original Rally and Picnic in 1912 – although, many of these super-cars have been modified slightly, in line with the latest advancements in pedal-car technology.

We anticipate three pedal-cars being entered in this year’s race and we are delighted to announce that Ms Steam-Hammer and other members of the club will be passing (at great speed), through all three Tram Festival events in 2018.

Expect to see them racing by, although they may need to stop and make major mechanical repairs and speed enhancing alterations. Indeed, they may well need your help too: these aristocrats don’t like to get their hands into the oily side of motoring. They will also undoubtedly wish to take tea and partake in the odd picnic with the natives, (part of the Annual Rally tradition), and to recount tales and songs collected on the road.

‘The Annual Steam Hammer Rally and Picnic’ is a new outdoor piece for Spare Parts, being presented for the first time. It is suitable of all ages and highly interactive; a participatory adventure celebrating the resourcefulness and ‘can do’ spirit of the long distance vintage racing car rally drivers.

Our three amazing pedal cars will be built from discarded household objects, bicycle parts and other reclaimed materials. They will have mobile sound systems built in so the performers will be responding to specially created in-car sound tracks.
