Hoop Mania is a large interactive installation for children and families to play, interact and relax within. The installation is made from hundreds of brightly coloured hoops attached together to form a dome like structures that can be crawled through and played within. There are be multiple entrances in different sizes and at different levels making it accessible for all. The installation includes both quiet areas for parents to relax and watch their children and areas for playing, however it is not possible to climb on Hoop Mania.
During the event Hoop Mania will grow and change. We will work with the families who visit to attach more hoops to the installation so the size and shape develops and evolves during the event allowing for engagement and interaction. This will create more areas to play; it will allow time for families to consider a very different approach to creating art.
Of course when there are hundreds of hula-hoops there needs to be hula hooping! There will be hula-hoops available for the children and parents to try. This will further connect them to the theme of circus by them experiencing a circus art form and it will push their perception of art further by them using a very familiar toy to play with and to build a piece of art from.
Hoop Mania has been commissioned by Art In The Park Leamington and will be available to tour from mid August. The inspiration for Hoop Mania came from Leamington’s circus history. From investigating different types of circus performers we became inspired by hoop aerialists and hula-hoop performances. With our love for repetition, interaction and the circus inspiration Hoop Mania was born.
