Hotel Watercage

Category: Show

Am I lost forever
Do I give up the search
To pull myself together
Or do I allow the love back in
So that I may find happiness
As well as the way home
Which do I follow
My head or my heart

Hotel Watercage is a remarkable aerial performance by Theater Tol focusing on the battle between the head and the heart. The main characters of Hotel Watercage appear to have lost each other forever. It is through the absence of the other that they see life from another perspective.

The beloved cling on to their separation, having lost each other. They have lost sight of the beauty in each other. They have to learn to re-examine and rediscover each other. Only when they succeed in rekindling the passion, can they experience joy together.

They are not alone on this journey; there are more in Hotel Watercage who have come adrift. Not only because they haven’t followed the designated path in life, but particularly because they have become out of touch with themselves. They are in want of connection and community. The world around them judges them from afar, deprives them of their freedom, and condemns them to isolation. In the face of despair, the forsaken try earnestly to reaffirm their grip on reality; they desire to liberate themselves. In doing so, they regenerate their utter isolation into catharsis, drawing out a healing power from within. The realisation that they are not alone in their imprisonment empowers them to redress their predicament. These soulmates find each other and together, they fight to find the key to happiness. Not giving up, they press on in their battle to be free from the darkness inside their heads until they can finally leave their past behind.

Even the demons go through an evolution in Hotel Watercage. They experience first hand how it feels to be rejected and outcasted. They are confronted by the consequences of their actions. This gives them new insight.

Consequently, they surrender their wickedness and reintegrate with the other inhabitants of Hotel Watercage.
In the conclusion all come together in a spectacular finale where everyone comes to a great height, and water bestows upon them the power to continue their growth. Following which, you, the audience, head home full of joy and hope; your insides brimming with the power of freedom and the power of water.
