A peddler, in British English pedlar, also known as a canvasser, chapman, cheapjack, hawker, higler, huckster, monger, or solicitor, is a traveling vendor of goods.
Traditionally Peddlers were people who travelled about the countryside selling wares or services. They were often immigrants, outcasts or people on the margins of society. They would offer novelty items, handmade produce or mending and repair services, often to people who were inaccessible or not able to travel into villages and towns easily. Types of peddlers still operate in many parts of the world; they travel and carry their wares or tools of their trade by bicycles, on carts, on barrows, rickshaws or on foot.
