With Reverse, Johannes Bellinkx invites you to move through the world differently. To experience reality in reverse. Instead of looking straight ahead, you look back. Any sense of purpose is replaced by the unforeseen. By literally turning us in the opposite direction, Johannes Bellinkx forces us to become aware of how we navigate the world. With a soundtrack that fuses fiction with reality, Reverse is both a physical and mental experience.
The work of Johannes Bellinkx balances on the borderline between theatre, art, and film. Like his previous work, Framing, this piece also deals with perception. Reverse also challenges your
way of seeing and thinking.
**** – Volkskrant about Reverse: “A simple reversal of your walking habits works wonders. Your field of vision becomes wide-screen, the focus broadens; as if you’re withdrawing from everything.”
**** – Theaterkrant about Reverse:
“(…) Reverse isn’t simply about perspective—it’s largely about trust. And in this work, with his distinctive cinematic signature, Bellinkx demonstrates his engagement. Trusting new patterns,
daring to stand out, surrendering to the unknown. In the last sequence of the journey, Bellinkx takes it to the extreme: what began as a walk entered into voluntarily ends in a mental quest in which you are challenged to release all of your patterns and initial impulses, and blindly trust the unknown.”
