“The quality and impact of S.C.R.U.M. at GDIF 2022 was notable, engaging audiences in powerful, relevant storytelling at both Cutty Sark Gardens and in the heart of a local community on the Glyndon Estate” – Bradley Hemmings, Artistic Director, festival.org

Dance is a crime. We should have seen it coming. We spent the first two decades of the new millennium gripped by fear. After the war on terror, financial turmoil, climate change and global pandemics, an anxious public turned to big tech and invasive surveillance for a safety blanket – but at what cost?

S.C,R.U.M. weaves together Tony Adigun’s electrifying trademark synaesthesia of hip-hop and contemporary dance with a captivating original soundtrack blending hip-hop and contemporary classical scores, immersing the audience in a soundscape that is nothing less than cinematic. This 35-minute outdoor show animates a rebellious rabble of six young digital natives who stand in protest against a global political regime that has outlawed freedom of creative expression. VR headsets both conceal their identity and also inform their movement. Will they rebel or conform?

“Nothing less than excellence… Tony’s choreography continues to be enthralling and never loses its vibrancy… quality dance that is forward thinking and engaging.” – Charlene Olaleye, Director of Learning and Participation, Strike a Light, Gloucester

Passers by are attracted from a distance by a bright red scaffold tower, the shows imposing but agile central set structure, The performance area is thrust with the audience on three sides, and the performance area is marked by our custom black and red floor markings.

S.C,R.U.M. can be adapted for indoors and also for dusk and evening performances and can be presented in inclement weather subject to risk assessment.
