Sit Back (2013)- brings you a spoonful of nostalgia, a shot of good fun and a measure of emotion. Sit Back is a small scale, dance theatre piece for 4 women and a bench. Selected as part of Gone In 20 Minutes showcase 2013, winning the Jury Prize.
Based in 1942, London Transport Clippies from the 601 trolleybus service are having lunch between shifts. Their imaginations go on a physical journey exploring and transforming the space and their relationship. The piece brings to light the role of the female work force during World War 2, bringing a sense of comradery. During the piece, they dance with food, on benches, give out vintage bus tickets, use clippers and counters to make the experience more real for the audience, whilst using voice to interact with them.
It is a light-hearted, family friendly piece and the soundtrack lets your imagination slide back in time with songs from Bing Crosby, Marilyn Duke, Anne Shelton, Marion Hutton and Tex Beneke. It is of contemporary dance style with hints of lindy hop.
Perfect for any bench in any part of the world!
“I loved it! It was great fun and the exuberance of the performance rubbed off on the crowd. More seriously, it made me think a little differently about life during the War “ Dave Chick, audience member and Chairman of the British Trolleybus Society.
