Still in the City – Dawn is an immersive contemporary dance and live music performance.
Three dancers and three musicians occupy the space, they begin in stillness, at dawn, as the sun rises. The audience sit, stand and walk slowly through the performers.
The company play and move slowly, lightly threading through the sounds of the dawn chorus, the air, the audience.
The speed, overwhelm and closing down of urban space is replaced by opening, relating and communicating from a place of stillness.
The movement and sound builds momentum as the dawn expands, dances arise between performers and audience, dancers move lightly in and out of contact, finding lifts, touch, grace.
Until stillness returns, the sounds of the dawn is left and audience and performers gaze at each other and then move into a new day.
The company have been developing the Still in the City project since 2014. Bringing the work outside and presenting at dawn marks a new part of the project that aids the growth of a new possibility, built from the ground up, which is at the heart of the show.
