“Wearing full space suits, a crew of mysterious astronauts arrive on a new planet, only to find that they are not alone. Six intrepid explorers try to understand the strange new world they’ve found themselves in.”
Made by Hijinx with Brian Rodríguez Wood (Clownbaret) in 2019, The Astronauts is a non-verbal walkabout show which pulls on the importance of human connection – perhaps more pertinently now than ever.
Six astronauts in full-costume appear at your festival, accompanied by a music-emitting moon-buggy housing all the tech needed for the show. The Astronauts walk together as one, stopping at set points to leave their imagined shuttle and ‘make contact’ with the audience now gathered around them.
Through socially-distanced interactions, beautiful one-to-one moments of connection, our Astronauts come to discover that the audience are exactly as they are – human. The performance finishes with the raising of an Earth flag. It’s a visually affecting and beautiful show known to bring audiences to tears.
