Artizani, one of Europe’s most stylish and striking street theatre acts create Barcelona Beehive especially for Manchester at La Mercè.
See Mancunian bees enjoying scenes from traditional Catalan festivities, in this specially commissioned new behive, added the existing Bees! The Colony (supported by Without Walls).
The bee is the symbol of Manchester, UK – historically representing its hard-working, unified community, and more recently serving as a powerful emblem of unity and resilience.
Wander among the honey-perfumed colony, tended by ethereal beekeepers, and peer into surreal miniature worlds of ‘working’ wonder.
Artizani specialise in spectacular theatre performed in unconventional spaces. Their work is accessible and thought-provoking, featuring high production values and a surreal twist.
This new Barcelona Beehive is commissioned by XTRAX and funded by Arts Council England and Manchester City Council.
Showing at La Mercè, Barcelona on 24, 27 and 28 September 2025.
