The Collective Captain Boomer was founded in 2008 and is based in Antwerp, Belgium. It is a group of artists and scientists that have done big interventions in different European cities, bringing about a social dynamic and awakened sense of reality. We often work together with festivals and other art groups. The shows explore the boundaries between fiction and reality and are completely location based. The audience and the location become part of the performance. The work engages with local culture and heritage and addresses our bond with nature and tradition and the struggles of the individual. Captain Boomer is deliberately sensational, setting a booby trap of meaning and challenging people to take a stand. We try to involve a whole community, provoke a range of emotions and make people engage with each other. Sometimes people think it is funny and we try not to disturb this comforting illusion.
