Tête-à-Tête Festival, Rastatt, Germany (2016)

A Spotlight on UK Street Arts in Germany

tête-à-tête is a biennial Street Arts festival that takes place in Rastatt, Germany.

XTRAX and Zweifellos.net, the Producers of tête-à-tête, worked in partnership for the very first time to produce X-Site, a transnational collaboration designed to promote UK Street Arts at tête-à-tête festival, and broker relationships between UK and German outdoor promoters and artists.

This project included opportunities for outdoor promoters, event organisers and other industry professionals to see a selection of high-quality UK shows as part of the festival programme and attend a Pitching Session event which would allow them to find out more about new UK outdoor projects from a range of scales and artforms.

Tête-à-tête featured work from 7 UK companies including Avanti Display – Reliquary; Eric MacLennan – A Voyage Around My Bedroom; Mimbre – If I Could I Would; Plunge Boom – Vegetable Nannies; Ramshacklicious – Mr. & Mr. Burn; Southpaw Dance Company – Carousel; Stefano Di Renzo – Hold On

XTRAX and tête-à-tête hosted a Pitching Session event which gave 5 UK and 5 German companies the opportunity to present exciting new outdoor projects available for touring. UK companies included: Acrojou – All At Sea; Artizani – BEES! The Colony; NoFit State & Motionhouse – BLOCK; Stopgap Dance Company – Bill & Bobby; The Awakening; Tangled Feet – EMERGE/NCY.

39 promoters attended the festival with 30 attending the pitching session. All pitching companies reported making new contacts with international promoters following their presentation. Anecdotally, the partnership with the UK made a big impact on the Mayor of Rastatt who mentioned the work of XTRAX as part of his opening speech and an article about the collaboration was published in the local press.

This activity was very successful in terms of making new connections with German professionals and raising the profile of UK outdoor artists in Germany.

It was a great opportunity to reach potential new promoters. I really enjoyed the experience.
