London is renowned globally for it?s depth of art and culture and the London Culture Festival is a two week celebration of the city?s cultural vibrancy and diversity. The festival aims to entertain, educate and present a platform for audiences to access culture through live music, parties, dance, photography and literature.
Highlights of the programme are:
London Live (Thursday 18th August) a live music event showcasing successful artists in the music industry with London origins. Headline act to be released soon.
Moving On (Monday 15th August) a week long photography exhibition depicting black and Asian life in the city over 25 years. The exhibition is based on the work of renowned press photographer Colin Patterson, and will include images of high profile individuals such as Diane Abbott MP, Serena and Venus Williams, Ian Wright during his Arsenal days, Dame Kelly Holmes and Eddy Grant and more recently Chipmunk.
Mardi Gras themed party (Friday 26 August) a fun filled night based on the mardi gras concept, which will see revellers dress in colourful bold costumes representative of their culture. Revellers will be greeted with cocktails on arrival, then dance the night away to salsa, calypso and Latin American beats. The party is themed by leading artist Helen Davenport who has worked on some of the most spectacular events around the world.
Family fun day (Sunday 29h August) for all the family with family entertainment like mask making, bouncy castles, face painting and head dress workshops. This event coincides with the Notting Hill Carnival as an alternative for families.
In addition to smaller locally programmed events across London, the festival will also run a Short Stories Competition with a prize of up to £300, and feature Culturally Inspired Recipes where celebrated restaurants and chefs submit culturally inspired recipes.
