High Tea (with a twist)

Category: Show Related artist: Levantes Dance Theatre

Under the direction of choreographer/designer Eleni Edipidi; Levantes Dance Theatre creates contemporary circus performances which are witty, inclusive and visually strong.

Their popular Canapé Art series, featuring a pair of performers in exquisite identical costumes, make-up and headgear, has a new outdoor edition for 2022, High Tea (with a twist).

High Tea (with a twist) is an 18 – minute outdoor work that is performed by 2 identically dressed female performers playing love games. They dance and perform acrobatics above a beautifully laid tea table and interact with the audience.

Expect glittery cakes, outrageous costumes and theatrical high jinx in an explosion of bright colour and silliness.

A large part of Levantes’s ethos is to outreach to local communities. As an optional extra to booking the show, Levantes offers the opportunity for six local people to appear alongside the Canapé Art duo in High Tea (with a Twist). Suitable for people identifying as women from the age of 18 and above, this is a chance to gain performance experience or just try something new through a discreet three hour* online and in-person engagement package (* excluding shows). All costumes, headgear and make up provided.

High Tea (with a twist) was delivered in partnership with Found in Music and Battersea Arts Centre for Pop Up London. The aim was to bring tourists and families back to London and celebrate the British culture and London freelance artists. High Tea (with a twist) was performed in different London locations such as at Trafalgar Square, King’s Cross Station, Elephant & Castle and the roof garden at Canary Wharf.

All locations attracted quite different kind of audiences, from young families, to older people, from office workers to tourists whose first language may not be English.

Since then we had the opportunity to receive a week’s residency at Flying Fantastic in Peckham, where we worked with finding ways to make our work more accessible with mentors Karina Jones; a visually impaired performer and vocal coach Billy Alwen Artistic Director of Cirque Bijou.

Since October 2022 High Tea (with a twist) has been performed at:
*Universities
*Festivals
*At a tea party for old people’s homes
*Outdoor events
*A Flower show
*And our first international touring at Mais Imaginarius, Santa Maria de Feira, Portugal
