Flipping the Bird are a collaborative, multi-disciplinary theatre company. We create work that is political, subversive and entertaining and like finding theatrical images in unexpected places: poems, stories, novels, old photographs, myths and the insides of peoples heads.
The company’s name is derived from the obsolete Victorian theatrical slang, ‘to flip the bird’, which means hissing the villain when he comes onstage. We make work everywhere from black box theatres to abandoned restaurants, and have played the Southwark Playhouse, the Etcetera Theatre, the Old Vic Tunnels, Theatre503, the Assembly and the Oxford Playhouse. We believe no space should be safe from theatre.
