Hi Tech Steel Band worked with Turner Prize winning artist Jeremy Deller on the Manchester International Festival event, ‘Procession’ held in July 2009 which broadened their musical repertoire to include a selection of Joy Division songs ‘Transmission’ and ‘Love Will Tear us Apart’ plus ‘Ever Fallen In Love’ by the Buzzcocks. This added to their already diverse catalogue of tunes by pop greats ranging from the Pussycat Dolls to Bob Marley, not to mention the traditional carribean calypsos and soca melodies.
Steel drums form the heart of the band and they are accompanied by a strong rhythm section of drums, bass and rhythm guitars, keyboards and percussion which produces a rich, heavy sound. The band also provides vocals.
Over the years the band has played at functions ranging from corporate events, weddings, fundraisers, carnivals and fun days to TV and radio work.
Their last Manchester city centre performance was at the Platform 4 Piccadilly event in September 2009.
