Seb Mayer is a London based puppet maker and puppeteer specialising in giant puppetry. Seb’s background is in product design, in 2014 he founded Partly Animal to produce and sell his cardboard mask kits.
While studying for a BA at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Seb vastly expanded his knowledge of materials and techniques.
His main interest is now in developing new forms of giant puppet for outdoor performance. Making use of modern materials such as plastazote to make puppets which:
-Are technically sound and durable.
-Are light enough not to inhibit fluidity of movement.
-Are as expressive as possible in how they look and move.
-Are as intuitive as possible to operate, for as few puppeteers as possible.
Seb is currently working to devise and produce an outdoor show based on Cervantes’ novel, Don Quixote.
Seb has also worked as a walkabout performer at festivals and events including Boomtown Fair, Shambala Festival, Secret Garden Party, Hogsozzle, Cirque le Soir, the Victoria & Albert Museum, Solar Weekend (Netherlands), Fusion Festival (Germany), Mandrea Festival (Italy), as a prop maker for theatrical productions and films, and as a workshop facilitator teaching puppet manipulation and making to 8-18 year olds across the London area.
