Vamos Theatre devise and tour accessible, humorous and fearless work which showcases the best in full mask performance – a genre with no spoken words and therefore ideal for international touring.
Vamos Theatre tours our full mask theatre productions nationally and internationally; delivers training and education workshops in a wide range of settings including schools, colleges, businesses, care homes, festivals, and conferences; and takes Walkabout theatre into the streets of Britain and beyond.
The company tours its theatre productions to over seventy theatres and arts centres in the UK each year, and has created Walkabout since its inception in 2006. The last two years have seen Vamos establishing a growing Walkabout touring circuit: in 2014 we performed at festivals including Wilderness, Lovebox and Glastonbury; and in 2015 we will be touring our Walkabout internationally to Jyvaskyla Festival, Finland, and Gartenfestival, Germany.
Our Walkabout work is accessible to all types of audiences, of all ages and backgrounds. In particular we find that this style of work is a fabulous tool for introducing more contemporary theatre work, such as full mask theatre, to a non-theatre going audience, who would never normally buy a ticket to see a show by Vamos or our peers. Vamos is passionate about our Walkabout programme, because by taking the work out on the streets to this demographic it means that the risk element of buying a ticket is taken out of the equation for them. Through our digital strategy and social media promotion e.g. encouraging people to post their selfies with our Walkabout characters to Vamos’s facebook page, the hope is that these people are encouraged to access and have a relationship with the arts in a more longterm way. Vamos strives to increase the popularity of a genre which is under represented in the UK.
