Join us and outdoor arts specialists from across the world at our newest showcase event, the XTRAX / Freedom Festival Showcase in Hull.
Taking place from 31 August – 2nd September, Freedom Festival is a blend of theatre, music, comedy, poetry, outdoor spectacle and performance aimed at a wide audience of all ages, bringing renowned national and international artists to Hull while providing significant opportunities for local and regional talent. Born out of the William Wilberforce commemorations in 2007, which celebrated the bicentenary of the abolition of the slave trade led by Hull’s most famous son, the annual Freedom Festival has evolved into one of the UK’s most distinctive international arts festivals. A commitment to presenting impactful work which explores themes of freedom such as, democracy, equality and protest set it apart from other comparable festivals, celebrating the city’s unique history whilst also engaging in a global conversation around human rights.
We invite you to spend three days in the context of this ambitious festival – fresh from the success of its UK City of Culture year – and see a rich programme of outdoor shows, learn about new models of working and meet with others working in the industry in a professional programme that will include talks, networking and pitching sessions.
The XTRAX / Freedom Festival 2018 Showcase is supported by Arts Council England through National Lottery Project Grants
