About the Artist Pitching Event
This artists pitching event was part of the UK Dance Showcase on3-4 June, a free online showcase for artists, programmers and professionals working in outdoor dance at 2021’s Birmingham International Dance Festival, part of the festival’s Outdoor Dance Collection 2021 programme (3-13 June).
The two-day, online event was devised and delivered in partnership with one of the UK’s leading specialists in international outdoor arts development XTRAX as part of the international showcase programme Platform 4:UK; dance development agency Dance4 as part of Dance from England; and DanceXchange, producers of BIDF.
The full programme was launched in May 2021 and presented a showcase of current choreographic practice for outdoor and site-responsive work and provided opportunities for artists, programmers and professionals working in outdoor dance to attend international panel discussions, artist pitching sessions and other networking opportunities, all available via a virtual event platform.
Alongside the Artist Pitching events was the launch of the Outdoor Dance Collection 2021 Catalogue, offering delegates access to a curated collection of over 20 dance artists and companies presenting outdoor work available for touring in 2021-22. The catalogue is still available on the XTRAX website, offering practical and artistic information to spotlight these exciting artists and shows.
The event was our first hosted on the virtual platform Pheedloop, offering delegates an enhanced conference experience where they could network safely and connect with international artists and dance professionals. The platform included instant messaging, video conferencing and online profiles, offering unique opportunities to facilitate new relationships.
