Internationales Straßentheater Festival Holzminden (2017)

XTRAX was invited by festival organisers to host a very special professionals programme with a view to giving a small taste of UK outdoor arts.

Internationales Straßentheater Festival Holzminden is one of Germany’s leading street arts festivals with a strong reputation across Europe for presenting the very latest outdoor work.

The Internationales Straßentheater Festival Holzminden 2017 is a biennial festival and one of Germany’s longest running street arts festivals, with a reputation for programming high-quality European work. In 2017 the festival attracted 40,000 audience members and for the first time set a country focus including professional events. XTRAX was pleased that this first focus was on the UK and evolved from long-term relationships the team have built with the German market.

Our relationship with Kulturburo, who are behind the Internationale Straßentheater Festival Holzminden, was helped by working with Bettina Linstrum, who had a long-standing relationship with the festival.

As part of the collaboration, XTRAX offered some Platform 4:UK funds as a contribution to the programme, which presented four UK shows: If I could I would by Mimbre; and the German Premieres of: Captive by Motionhouse; Ye Gods by Whalley Range All Stars and BELONGING(s) by Tilted Productions. In addition to these four companies, on Saturday 3rd June, XTRAX organised pitching sessions from five UK companies representing a variety of high-quality shows: All at Sea & Vessel by Acrojou; BLOCK by NoFit State Circus & Motionhouse, Ear Trumpet by Gobbledegook Theatre, VR Playground by Thrill Laboratory and Witness This by Company Chameleon.  These presentations were followed by a very successful break-out session which gave artists, producers and promoters a chance to meet and network. The UK Focus was followed by pitches from seven German Artists.

Overall I had a positive experience pitching in Holzminden. I felt that the organisation of the event was superb and I managed to have some encouraging conversations with directors and programmers. […] I do feel the event help raise the profile of my company in Germany and potentially build more opportunities for the future.
